Do you find yourself spending too much time on this site?
by restrangled ini continually check for new posts, and enjoy the fluff as much as the serious stuff.
there are so many different personalities and it so interesting to see any ones "take" on a subject.
the intellect, humor, or just honest responses and real life experiences fascinate me.

Was Being A Witness, All THAT Bad???
by minimus ini mean, you could've been made to be an islamic fundamentalist or something, right?

I guess its different for each person. In some ways it was a positive experience for me. I became a witness at a time when my life was heading for disaster. The witneses gave me a sense of direction,i developed as a person in some ways, became more honest and had a desire to follow God. I put my violent past behind me and settled down and had a good family life.
On the down side i became a watchtower robot, blindly following the dictates of the Watchtower. I fell for the 1975 teaching and made changes which affect us till this day. I regret the pain i caused my family by being so rigid in my beliefs as a witness and i regret that as a witness i was misrepresenting the true God.But as someone said above,i would not be the person i am today had i not met the witnesses.
My wife on the other hand views her time as a witness with horror. She regrets ever meeting the witnesses and felt oppressed and unhappy.
Thank God we are now free and are happy and content in our lives.
Life is a journey and along the way we have many and varied experiences, its how we deal with the experiences that will make us the person we are today.
The past is a great place to visit.......but not somewhere to stay.

Who, on this board, go to church now???
by mama1119 ini wondered how many abandoned going to any kind of church.
or, if there are some who go to a church now.
was it weird at first to go?

My wife and i go to a small Independant Evangelical Church, and have done so since we left the Watchtower some 20 odd years ago. I lost my faith in the Watchtower, but not in God.I remember the first time i went to a church,i was scared to go in,i thought all the demons would jump on me.
For me the important thing is my faith in Jesus, then being with fellow christians who have a heart for God and for others. As ozziepost said above,we are all sinners,so we should not look for perfection in people. We have met some wonderful christians and being part of a local community church that has a real intrest in the locality keeps us focused on Jesus.
Ian,our church is a couple of miles from where you live, feel free to drop in.

Why WHITBY is so important to us all!
by Gill inthe phrase is 'the truth is out there' and when we stumble across it by accident, it can't help but make a person wonder what else they never knew, and how pieces of the jigsaw gradually begin to fit together as we search for the 'truths of history'.. i love whitby.
whitby is a small town in the north yorkshire moors.
it sits on the coast with the magnificent ruins of whitby abbey dominating the sky line.

Has being a Jehova's witness totally shattered your faith?
by Silvia Plath injust because the watchtower society is wrong doesn't mean that there is no god, nor does it mean there is a god.
it would interesting to now how former members have adjusted thier cosmology, or whether they are now atheists and why.
i personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.

No,not in the least.
For me,...i have never doubted God......i only have to look at the sky to realise that there is a god......To understand his purpose i only have to look at the bible......and while there are many questions...i feel that there are answers..

How many ex-jws move out of town to start over?
by rebel8 ini was wondering how common it is for ex-jws to relocate after leaving the borg in order to escape the bad memories of being in a cult, or to break contact with cult members.. i have wanted to move far away for as long as i can remember--even as a kid--for this purpose.
various life circumstances have delayed that--long story--but mr. rebel8 and i are thinking of moving within the next few years.
i am the one who's most interested in moving to a completely different type of place--different culture, different climate, different everything!

After my wife and i left the Watchtower we experienced the usual shunning.
Witnesses would walk out of a shop if we entered. We were often shunned on the street as there were many witnesses who lived nearby.
I loved it as i would always say hello and smile at them.My wife found it much very upsetting. So we moved about ten mile away.
It was the best thing we could have done.We made new friends, found a great church, and our kids did not have to suffer when they saw thier old friends being pulled away from them by thier parents.
I still work in the same area and even now some 22 years later i am still shunned.

My sis calls & says,"Your dead"&"I wish you'd died in a car accident"(long)
by morwen inya know... i'm a bit amazed at times at how utterly out of touch with reality jw's can be.
here's a little bit of a background of what's been going on....
i've been having an on going issue with my jw family about my husband & i(and our 4 young children) no longer going to meetings and us having questions/problems with this religion.we are not df'd nor da'd (at this point) but have not been to a meeting in about 7 months and have been inactive for probably 3-4 years now.we haven't lived near my parents for several years so they have been a little "in the dark" so to speak as to us being inactive but we kinda were given a bit of "lee-way" since 5 yrs.

Hi Morwen,
What a story. You and your husband Slaine sound like an amazing couple. Thanks for sharing this with us.Your family are to be pitied, they are trapped in the Watchtower bird-cage.You have chosen to spread your wings and taste freedom.Lets hope that you show them the way.
Enjoy your husband and children. Sorry for your loss.

I am getting on a bit[nearly sixty] but i like running. i recently done 10k and hope to do a lot more. Now one of my sons goes a bit further. As a teenager he was quite a prospect until he was taken ill with cancer. He could have achieved a lot but the illness took its toll. He is now fully recovered and loves to run.He does these "tough guy" races. They are all mad.Its unbelievable what they go through. You dont have to be mad...but it helps.Running is great. I am going to get back into training this week.
